2017 Chicago Region SCCA Checkered Flag Party

lfscThe Chicago Region SCCA will be observing another great year of competition and friendship at our 2017 Checkered Flag Party. As in the recent past Rick Mancuso and Lake Forest Sportscars has once again graciously offered us the stunning sights and exquisite amenities of their facility for this annual event.

Last year the real surprise of the evening was when Rick Mancuso made available to all that were interested a ride and drive in a 2016 Ferrari or a 2016 McLaren. The Ferrari, was a California T with a 3.8L twin turbo V8 painted Grueso Silverstone, which was a beautiful dark metallic gray. Now when you think of Ferraris, the first color that comes to mind is rosso (red). However, I have to say the color looked great on this car. In the waning late afternoon sunlight the color enhanced the sharp crisp lines of the sculpted body. The other car a catching Ventura Orange McLaren 570 S that everyone wanted to drive. I’m not quite sure why, although it intrigued me as well. Was it the orange color, reminiscent of the glory days of the CanAm cars? Was it the futuristic design with the doors that pivot up rather than swing out? Whatever it was, it caught the attention of many. Like the Ferrari, it too was powered by a 3.8L twin turbo V8. But unlike the CanAm cars of the past with their stark racing cockpit, the McLaren 570s are high performance sports cars, with outstanding luxury cabins.

Everyone that participated in the ride and drive climbed out of the car with a huge grin on their face. It didn’t matter if it was the Ferrari or the McLaren something special happened for each one. Rick enjoyed this as well and decided to offer the ride and drives again this year.

So, make plans to come out and celebrate our 2016 season on Saturday, February 18. Not only will you get to socialize among the Ferraris, Aston Martins, Maseratis, and McLarens, you will have the opportunity to test drive a Ferrari if you wish!

Ferrari test drives begin at 4 p.m. and run until 6 p.m. The social hour starts at 5 p.m. and includes complementary beer, wine and soda and appetizers. Back by popular demand, we’ll be entertained by a live jazz trio. Dinner is at 7 p.m., and the awards presentations follow at 8:30 p.m.

People 16 years of age and older are welcome. The ticket price is $35 per person. Due to site restrictions, children under 16 may not attend this event.
