The Chicago Region Board of Directors conducted the Region’s Annual Meeting followed by the November General Membership meeting on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Blackdog Speed Shop. “RE” Roger Vilmur began the business portion of the meeting promptly at 7:00 pm following an opportunity for members to socialize, enjoy some 75th Anniversary cake and beverages and take in the collection of race and collector cars on hand.
The Chicago Region wishes to congratulate Julie Hammons, Land O’Lakes Region and Todd Heilicher, Chicago Region as they were honored as an SCCA® Worker of the Year, at the 60th running of SCCA’s National Championship Runoffs®.
As a throwback to the 1990’s when the Chicago Region held a photo contest, the Activities Committee has established a photo contest as a vehicle to record the Chicago Region’s 75th anniversary year with photographs.
In honor of the Region’s 75th anniversary, the Activities Committee is holding a photo contest to celebrate our members, events and love of cars and to document this year for the future.
This year for the Chicago Region’s 75th Anniversary Celebration the party was back at Ferrari Lake Forest and again like in the past Rick opened the showroom to allow us to walk among the Ferrari’s and other special cars. This year just as in the past we also had a car on display. In keeping with the historical theme of display vehicles Tom Simpson shared his 1966 McKee MK VI CanAm car with us.
The Central Division Hall of Fame is announcing the opening of nominations to be presented in 2023.
The Chicago Region, SCCA, Triple Crown® award recognizes consistent outstanding performance by SCCA racers during a single year, starting with a win at the Chicago Region June Sprints®. The 2021 Triple Crown Award went to four drivers: David Daughtery, BSpec, Indianapolis Region; Tim Day Jr., P2, San Francisco Region; Andrew Whitston, FV, Milwaukee Region; and Sven de Vries, F500, Saginaw Valley Region.
Our 2022 event on February 19th will be at the Klairmont Kollections facility. The Klairmont Kollection is a private collection of over 350 beautiful vehicles together with a large banquet room for our dinner.
The Sports Car Club of America has recognized SCCA Road Race Regions who persevered through the 2020 pandemic by presenting them with the “John McGill Award” for significant contribution to the Club Racing Program. The recipient of this award is chosen by the Club Racing Board and the head of Road Racing.
Twenty years ago the Chicago Region SCCA, created and established the Triple Crown® award which is presented to a driver that meets the three requirements of the star pillars, June Sprints® Champion, Conference Champion, and National Champion.
