November 2005 REmarks

It’s good to be back in print!

Welcome to the first new issue of the Piston Patter News Letter. As you all may realize, the region has had some ongoing issues with publication and editing. With Pete and Loren Allen taking over, that should be cleared up.

What I wanted to do here is reiterate what we talked about at the annual meeting this year.

First off, Sandy Wong-Darroch has finished her time on the Board of Directors. Bob Lojkovic is coming on in her place. Sandy has contributed greatly over the years and will continue to do so. I would like to welcome Bob to the board; he is relatively new to SCCA but brings a wealth of experience in the form of his racing experience with other sanctioning bodies. He doesn’t know just what he is getting in to….

I will continue as RE for another year, with George Laws continuing as Treasurer and Aruch Poonsapaya continuing as secretary.

This year’s competition season went very well, with the 50th Running of the June Sprints emerging as a great success. We also had a strong regional turn out, including a race at Autobahn Country club. The Region continues to support a very successful Area 5 Regional Championship Series, in conjunction with the other racing regions in Area 5.

The road racing schedule for next year, Division wide, looks very similar to this past years. The differences are another national in Area 4, and a slight shuffling of the regional schedules. By this time next year Central division will have split, with Area 5 becoming Central Division, and Area 4 becoming the Great lakes division. Most of the infrastructure for the split is being put in place now and the transition should be smooth.

We have just completed the Roundtable where we officially created the Area 5 Central Division SCCA INC. and elected the following Board of Directors. President – Scott Sanda from the Chicago Region, Vice President – Scott Meland from Blackhawk Valley Region, Treasurer – Julie Komp from the Milwaukee Region and Secretary – Tom Fuehrer from Land-O-Lakes Region.

Please look it up on the website and plan to attend, it will be a great way to relax and close out the year.

It’s been an eventful year, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Yours in Racing,

Scott Sanda
