Chicago Region SCCA social get-together at the Volo Auto Museum
Chicago Region kicked off the 2017 season with a social get-together on January 28, 2017 at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, IL. The Region’s Activity Committee had negotiated a 50% discount on the entry ticket price and twenty-five of our club members and guests took advantage and came out for a fun filled day. Those that joined us found collectable exotic cars, famous TV and movie vehicles on display, and military vehicles in action packed dioramas. Sports cars along with sixties muscle cars and antique vehicles filled five showrooms. Interspersed among the car displays were Disney and Warner Brothers character displays (some larger than life), classic motorcycles, bicycles, and scooters. Tractor, stage coach, and camper collections alongside snowmobile, antique outboard motors, and other memorabilia rounded out all to be viewed and enjoyed.
The five showrooms full of cars from the fifties to current day provided a memorable walk through our past. Cars from our childhood, and teenage years up to young adult hood. There were cars we had owned and cars we wished we had owned all stirring our memory. As our guests passed through the different displays of cars you could overhear the conversations about those memories. Many stories were shared along with some good laughs and smiles.
Part of the Volo Museum facility also includes a large antique mall and after grabbing a bite to eat in the food Court sitting next to and in full view of the impressive Duesenberg room some headed off to shop for that elusive collectable to add to their own collection. If you missed out on this opportunity to speed time with your friends from the club, we are planning more events in the near future. Watch for you Piston Patter e-mail or check out the Chicago Region Web-site at SCCA-Chicago.com for more social and entertaining events.
