October 2018 REmarks
Hello Everyone,
I know part of racing is that sometimes things go wrong. “The ultimate measure of a man (sb person) is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige, and even his life for the welfare of others.”, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Unfortunately, I have seen a few of our members not be as helpful and courteous and act like the worst people I have seen at the DMV (sorry if you work at the DMV). I know it can be frustrating when people can’t follow directions, do what they are supposed to, make mistakes, or act like a complete jerk. Please be patient and courteous because these people are probably first timers or new members and they will have a terrible day and not come back if they are met with aggression, irritation and rudeness.
Fortunately, I have seen many members come other people’s aid in times of need. Friendly faces at registration and tech helping people that may not be familiar with where you are supposed to go what you are supposed to do. People sharing driving and working tips. People helping to get a car back on/in trailer when it’s not drivable. People offering up their car when their car breaks. People rushing to a car that has had an of course excursion. People taking the input from “Black Flag” and really listening and understanding they are trying to help, not scold (maybe scold sometimes). People on road tour helping someone that has broken down; whether it is sharing some tools, spare parts and just lending a hand. First timers and new members that meet these people are going to have a much better experience, most likely have fun with their car and make our region even better.
You can only a make first impression once, let’s make it a great one. You and the new members are the future of this club.
