April 2005 REmarks
I’m starting to get excited. It’s April, and the Cendiv racing season is about to kick off. We have our first road racing event this month, the Quad drivers school and race. This is the first event in an exciting 3rd season for the Area 5 Regional Championship, which is once again sponsored by Continental Audi / Acura and Tro Manufacturing.
If you are in the market for a new car, please stop by Continental first. If you are a high volume metal stampings buyer or user, give Tro a call!
Our first 2 Solo events are also this month, back with our old friends Route 66. This year we are doing two Performance Driving Events. What is a PDE? It s the same thing as the High Performance Car Control Clinic we did last year. These are on track lapping and instruction. This is aimed as street cars, and participants are divided up into groups based on experience, and taught how to drive a car safely while approaching the limits of control. These are not timed events, and all levels of drivers are welcomed. Last years event generated a lot of smiles and enjoyment.
These will be joint events put on with Milwaukee Region. The first one is at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet on May 25th, and the second will be at Blackhawk Farms on October 5th.
We do need experienced drivers, either racers or solo to serve as instructors. Jim Marinangel will be handling the coordination of instructors and will be putting out more information in the near future.
The Regions in Area 5 are currently working on Incorporating, and have created bylaws and a scope that is currently under final review by the Regions. This is a good thing, as it will create a framework and mechanism to administer Area 5 activities and monies, and will serve as the basis for the new divisional body when and if Cendiv splits. For all you conspiracy theorists out there, don t worry. This has been a process of creating something a whole bunch of truly paranoid Regions (myself included) and BODS can agree to, without any Region giving up it s autonomy.
March did see 2 Region events: the Prospective Members Workshop and the Workers Appreciation Party. These were both well attended events held at Lake Forest Sportscars. Rick Mancuso has once again opened his doors to the Region. Rick, If I ever win the lottery, one of those dark grey DB9 s is going in my garage.
Finally, I would be remiss in not again mentioning the 50th running of the June Sprints. This is going to be a great event, and the participation of Carroll Shelby is going to lend a flair that has not been seen in a while. Please go online, or look in this issue at the Charity letter pertaining to Carroll s children s foundation, and make a donation.
Best regards,
Scott Sanda
