A visit with Ray Sorensen, and Blackdog Racing Team McLaren 570 S – GT4
The Chicago Region SCCA invites you to join us at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Blackdog Speed Shop, 600 Barclay Blvd., Lincolnshire, Ill. Ray Sorenson, vice-president and race team manager, will share stories and information about the team and the Pirelli World Challenge as the Blackdog Racing Team enters its 2019 race season.
Blackdog Speed Shop is the most successful team in GTS/GT4 competition in the series. It has claimed 25 race victories, two Team Championships and four Driver Championships to date. Founded in 2002, Blackdog Racing began competing Chevrolet Corvettes simultaneously in SCCA T1 and World Challenge. Tony Gaples, president and team principal, had a vision. Years of hard work have paid off as Gaples and Sorenson built a very successful race team. This year, the Blackdog Racing Team opens a new chapter in its long and successful history as it fields two new McLaren 570S GT4s. Gaples is set to campaign these cars in the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint Championship – part of the Blancpain GT World Challenge America series (formerly known as Pirelli World Challenge).
Sorenson stated, “Everyone at Blackdog Speed Shop is proud to join the McLaren family. To be associated with a name like McLaren is something every person in racing works toward. This validates the work of this team during the last several years in winning races and championships against some of the best GTS and GT4 competition in the world. We’ll aim to do that again in 2019 – this time with McLaren.”
The team took delivery of the new race cars mid-February and has been working intensely to prepare the cars for the first race, in St. Petersburg, March 9. During our visit, Ray will talk about the shop activities, shop racing history and the exciting challenge as they create their next chapter in GTS and GT4 racing. Come join SCCA Chicago Region on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. for an exciting and informative gathering to learn more about a competitive team in a very competitive race series. Just so we know how many people will be joining us, please take a few minutes to register on MotorsportReg (MSR) . So plan an afternoon with Ray Sorenson and Blackdog Racing to hear the stories about the challenges as a championship racing team changes and grows.
