Ted’s Turn

This is the fourth installment in our series showcasing the Historic Markers placed around the original race circuit on the public roads in Elkhart Lake.

Shortly following the “Marsh Turn” drivers encountered a forty degree right-hand bend in the course that sent them traveling south, southeast on county J towards the Village of Elkhart Lake.  At the end of the long straight drivers made another right hand turn on to County X. This is where the third historical marker “Teds Turn” is found on the original 3.35 mile 1950 race circuit.  Placed at the intersection of Gottfried Street, County J and Birchwood Drive, County JP (originally County X). The historical marker at this location reads, “Named for Charles “Ted” Boynton who won the 1950 over 1500cc novice race driving an MG-TC and raced a Frazer-Nash LeMans Replica in 1951-52”.  This marker was donated by Elkhart Lake Improvement Association (Historic Race Circuits of Elkhart Lake).

Charles “Ted” Boynton II was a Chicago Region, SCCA member, he served on the Regions Board of Directors in 1953 and the Contest Board (Competition Committee) that same year.
