October Chicago Region SCCA General Membership Meeting

Mark your calendar, save the date, and come join us for the Chicago Region SCCA Membership Meeting on Wednesday October 18, 2023 at 7pm.  Our guest speaker for the evening will be Bob McKee and Tom Simpson.  Bob and Tom will be sharing with us fascinating facts and history about the McKee Race Cars.    Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to visit with Bob and Tom and hear firsthand what it took to create these cars and what it is like to pilot them around the race track.   

The Chicago Region SCCA at the 2023 Geneva Concours d’Elegance

The month of August was HOT, but the weather gods shined down on us on the fourth weekend of August 2023 which was a busy weekend for the Chicago Region and the weather was great!  Saturday and Sunday saw the running of the Kettle Moraine Divisional Road Race at Road America.  Also on Sunday the Region conducted its fourth “Concours for Sports Cars” as a featured group in the 2023 Geneva Concours d’Elegance. 

The 2023 Chicago Region SCCA Fall Tour

As part of the Chicago Region SCCA 75th anniversary celebration on October 21st the Chicago Region will be running another G.O.A.T.S. (Get Out and Tour Series) event.   Join us this fall as the colors are changing for another drive through southern Wisconsin to Elkhart Lake on some of the most scenic backroads there are to enjoy. 

Racing History Visits the 2023 Checked Flag Party

This year for the Chicago Region’s 75th Anniversary Celebration the party was back at Ferrari Lake Forest and again like in the past Rick opened the showroom to allow us to walk among the Ferrari’s and other special cars.  This year just as in the past we also had a car on display.  In keeping with the historical theme of display vehicles Tom Simpson shared his 1966 McKee MK VI CanAm car with us. 

John Doonan Speaks at General Membership Meeting

John Doonan, president of IMSA, was the guest speaker at Chicago Region SCCA’s membership meeting on Wednesday, April 20, at K1 Speed in Addison. John, shared with us some of his stories, and experiences growing up at Road America, Blackhawk Farms and in the racing community as a young boy. His grandfather and father were both racers with the club and John was exposed to all the facets of racing. He stated that all of those experiences and lessons learned about racing on track and trackside is what prepared him for current position with IMSA.
